XIE

Moo centred the first design of Muted around anxiety. Its subtle, a sub-plot. The hidden messages and phrases are broad enough to link your own meaning to it.

Everyone is different. Advice, support and recovery comes in different shapes and sizes.

The hoodie is to make your own.

Just because it is hidden doesn't mean its not there.

This drop was inspired by Anxiety

This one hits close to home, and it is such a broad topic that effects everyone differently. I am no therapist, but I think talking about our experiences can help each other. This is an example of how hidden messages relate to me, but they are broad. There is no 'right' connection.

Thats the point, what does it say to you?

IT IS LYING TO YOU

For me, this is the harsh voice in my head. Some of these 'Truths' I've thought about myself either came from people in my life who were less than supportive, or they just simply popped into existence one day. It took me many years to learn how to look past those overwhelming voices.

You may have some nasty words about yourself bouncing around up there, but this does not mean they hold truth.

I want to make sure your sleeve is there, like that good friend who says "don't listen to them".

You'll notice that the words face both ways, because it is also for us who wear it, and we can always read it clearly.

A BLINK ≠ EVERYTHING

When doing my first handful of concepts for this hoodie, I wanted to try and personify the feeling of anxiety, put it in words to help bring the image to life. That's what this almost poem-like collection of words at the bottom of your hoodie is all about.

A blink does not equal everything. My anxiety would get hung up on the smallest things, like it was a defining moment in my life. It would haunt me for days. In reality, it's just a 'blink of a moment' in my life.

I learned I had to try to take as much notice of these little things as I did with my own blinking.

Cotton-Poly blend, super soft fleece lining.

400GSM heavy weight.

100% cozy.

Labels

Our point of focus is important. It's how we rail our brains onto different tracks.

I like to focus on facts in moments of anxiety, and mute the "what ifs":

We don’t know people's thoughts. We can't predict the future. We can't rewind time. But we do know how many chairs are around the table, what the restaurant smells like, and how many crunchy lil spuds are on your plate.

Care Label: Just as Scrubs says on your hoodie's care label, the same goes for you. Don't judge yourself for not being perfect, or living the perfect life. Because what the absolute bloody f*ck is "perfect"?

The Print

Every order comes with a print that has a personalised message and signed by Moo.

This print features our friend Xie getting some fresh oxygen from our vending machine, only costs the disposal of a couple brain demons.

Black Dog Institute

It was hard to pick the first organisation as there are so many out there. For the XIE collection, Muted will be donating to Black Dog Institute.

"We are the only medical research institute in Australia that investigates mental health across the lifespan—from childhood to adulthood. "

I love to see all the different avenues they offer. They have a range of online courses, digital tools and resources. I know first hand it can be hand to even just start. That option of beginning in the comfort of your own home with the stepping stone of online courses prior to any face to face is a great doorway.

Another thing that stood out was offer training to places like workplaces, awareness and knowing how to support others is important part to helping Mental Health.

I haven't personally experienced these charities, so look into them at your own desgresion & consult your health care professional. But below are some other charities with things I thought was worth noting.

Other Charities

Lifeline

"Every day, nine Australians are lost to suicide, a heartbreaking reality that affects countless lives." While each loss is deeply felt, there is hope in our collective efforts to prevent suicide." - Lifeline

I think services like Lifeline are very important. Remember they are here to chat and help you out in times of need. We are never truely alone.

This Way Up

I love the idea of this! Its an online based course to help with cognitive behaviour. I also STRUGGLED to do anything in person, I would of loved a resource like this when I was stuggling, and if I am ever dealing with stress or depression again, I am 100% going to try it out.

Beyond Blue

I thought this may be worth mentioning as their name comes up a lot online. worth mentioning I did not choose them once I read some reviews regarding wait times with prompted referrals and cut offs on there online chat (for support). Though it is free & they still have a lot of other services & good reading material on their site.
